Nurses Week 2022

Happy Nurses Week 2022

Happy Nurses Week! Every year, The American Nurses Association (ANA) designates May 6th through the 12th to honor the strength, dedication, and perseverance of nurses in the field. Nurses Week began in 1990 and always falls on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is often credited with being the founder of modern nursing.

Throughout the week, we nationally recognize nurses in every step of their profession, from students to retired nursing veterans, for their hard work and resilience in a demanding profession. Nurses are there with compassion when we are ill, hurt, lost, and fighting for our lives. Nurses give us hope. We are so proud of all our Nursing students at Smith Chason. While we recognize that one week is not enough compared to the impact that nurses have made on us, we want to use this time to express our gratitude for the work they do 24/7, 365 days a year.

HOW TO HONOR OUR NURSES

This year we came up with a few ways you can celebrate and honor the nurses in our community. We encourage you to:

  • Send a personalized gift.
  • Write a nurse a sweet thank-you note.
  • Give a nurse a “virtual hug” via text or email.
  • Spread the Word – Promote the week and get your friends, family, your town, and even local schools, involved in recognizing the importance of nursing in our community.

HOW NURSES CAN CELEBRATE THEMSELVES

Every year, many companies honor nurses by offering free items and discounts during Nurses Week. These perks usually pertain to food, retail, and even travel. We encourage our Smith Chason Nurses, staff, and faculty to take advantage of this and celebrate themselves. Here is a list of the companies participating in this year:

NURSES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The ANA will be holding a free live virtual party and story jam event on May 18th, 2022.  The purpose of the event is to recognize and celebrate the nursing profession, connect through storytelling, and learn how your story can make a difference to improve the nursing community. This year’s theme for Nurses Week is “Nurses Make a Difference.” To participate and register for the event, click HERE.

To celebrate our nursing faculty and students, we will be distributing new swag items that complement this year’s theme. Please contact the Director of Nursing for more information on how to collect your new swag!

THANK YOU, NURSES

We would like to say thank you for your dedication to this profession. Thank you for working long days that often lead to sleepless nights. Thank you for your patience, commitment, and zeal.  We appreciate all your hard work, and it does not go unnoticed.
